Olexander Wlasenko; "Double Indemnity"

"Double Indemnity" is a rare glimpse into American cinema for Olexander, whose focus is usually French and Italian films.  Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray engage in a psycho-dramatic pause. The male enters a room with a drink and cigarette in hand. The female actor is concealed from view of the male lead. The viewer sees all.  69" l., 42" h. framed.   SOLD

Olexander Wlasenko; "Beach Scene"

"Beach Scene" is an energized, Felliniesque coastal moment on the margins of "La Dolce Vita".  Marcello
Mastroianni is pictured looking down, surrounded by Italian youth. They observe an enigmatic sea
creature monster that lies at their feet.  I love the way Olex has captured a girl's shadow from the next film still in the border.   36" l., 29" h. framed.  SOLD

Lana del Rey "Video Games"

More music from and for the road.... Initially (last year) Lana del Rey was hailed as "the next big thing and the it girl" by the critics.  By the beginning of this year she was getting panned, largely due to a few shaky, live vocal performances.  All of this happened before her first album was even released.  We'll see what the future holds for the 25 year old singer.  In the meantime, love this song.

Olexander Wlasenko; "Two Lights"

Strikingly beautiful new work by Olexander;  this very large piece features the Danish born actress Ana Karina from the French film "She did it her Way".  The drawing shows Ana as a bobbed-haired beauty passing two lights.  She has a sultry and ambivalent look on her face.  Ana, who was discovered by Coco Chanel and later married to Jean-Luc Godard, was one of the queen's of French cinema's "New Wave". While she may not be as well known as some movie icons, she had quite a successful career as an actress and also as a singer and writer.  60" l., 36" w. unframed.  Canadian, 2012   SOLD

"John Van Koert for Drexel" Dining Table and Chairs

John Van Koert designed silverware and furniture that helped to introduce modernist shapes. Born in Manitoba, Canada, he later moved to Milwaukee, where he studied at the University of Wisconsin to be a painter and sculptor and taught design in the art department. After World War II, he settled in New York as a jewelry designer for Harry Winston and branched out into industrial design.
His flatware designs in silver for Towle were well known in the 50's. One of them, ''Contour,'' a sleek Miro-like design, was chosen to represent modernism in ''Knife, Fork and Spoon,'' a 1951 traveling exhibition on the history of eating implements organized by the Walter Art Center of Minneapolis.
In 1954, he was exhibition director of ''Design in Scandinavia,'' a show that traveled for three years, to venues including the Brooklyn Museum of Art; it helped introduce Scandinavian modern design to Americans.  Most of his furniture designs were done for Drexel.

This drop leaf dining table from the  Drexel "Profile Collection" measures 70" long when the leaves are extended, 26" long when the leaves are dropped and it has 3 additional leaves.  Each additional leaf is 12", which allows for a fully extended table of 106".  The table is 42" wide and 29" high.
