Set of 4 Panton Chairs and Glass Top Table

The Panton Chair is a classic in the history of modern furniture design.  From the early 1950's, Danish designer Verner Panton had desired to create a stackable, cantilevered chair out of a single piece of moulded plastic.  In 1960, the chair was developed to the point where it could go into production.  It was the first chair to be manufactured completely out of a single piece of plastic.  Since its introduction to the market, it has undergone a number of design modifications and been produced by various manufacturers including Herman Miller.  While this set has been attributed to Herman Miller,
it doesn't have a Herman Miller stamp or label, so we can't confirm the manufacturer.
The chairs are very comfortable due to the cantilever structure and the flexibility of the polystyrene.  The table has a glass top and hollow tubular legs.  It would make a great breakfast or kitchen set.
The Panton Chair has received many international design awards over the years and resides in the collections of many prominent museums including the MoMA.
Chairs, 32" h., 20" w., 20" d.  Table, 41" diam., 27" h.  American, c. 1970's  $1,275.00 for the set  SALE $795.00 for the set
Condition:  3 Chairs and table are in good - very good vintage condition with some typical age appropriate marking and color variance in the polystyrene.  1 chair has a small piece missing from the side of the seat, but it does not affect the structure and still shows well.  The chair could be restored.

Moreddi Dining Table and Chairs

Fine Danish design.  This is one of the nicest dining sets we have featured in the shop over the last decade.  The table was designed for Moreddi by Skovmad and Andersen.  It has two leaves and can accommodate up to 10 comfortably as a large oval.  As a round table it seats four.  It is shown as a round and with one leaf.  The table comes with all the origianl protective pads.  The chairs were designed for Moreddi by Harry Ostergaard.  There are 6 chairs (4 side and 2 arm).  The design is very sculptural, and the chairs are surprisingly comfortable.  They retain their original leatherette upholstery.  I have never seen a dining set of this age in this original condition.  It is near mint.  The set was meticulously cared for by one NYC owner for the last 60 years.  There is a coordinating credenza by another maker which we will be posting.  Table, 47" round.  Each leaf is 23.5".  Fully extended, table is 94.5" l., 47" w.  Arm chairs, 31" h., 24" w., 19" d.  Side, 30" h., 19" w., 18" d.   Danish, c. 1950's  Table with 2 leaves, and 6 chairs SOLD
The chairs average around $5,000.00 for a set of 6 and the only other table I have found is in rosewood and retails at $6,100.00.

Red Lion Furniture Chest

Ava Gardner's chest!  In 1949 when Movieland magazine visited the actress in her Nichols Canyon, L.A. home, she was photographed in front of the same Red Lion chest of drawers.  The writer reported that Gardner opted for a room-by-room approach to decorating, and selected blond-wood "modern" furniture.  The home was also featured in the March 2006 issue of Architectural Digest.
The Red Lion Furniture Company was founded in 1907 in Red Lion, PA and produced pieces of exceptional quality and design.  During the period this chest was made, Red Lion was in collaboration with designers such as Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen as well as other leading designers of the period.  Pieces produced by Red  Lion were amongst the first pieces to be exhibited through The MoMA's  Department of Industrial Design.  The Department was established in 1940.  We have featured a number of pieces by Red Lion in the past, including this same chest.  It was a favorite then and still is now.  The blond mahogany six drawer chest has nice modern lines, great proportions and  handsome patinated brass hardware.  60" l., 20" d., 31" h.  American, c. 1940's  $850.00  SALE $550.00  (comes with matching mirror, not pictured )
Condition:  Front and sides are in very good vintage condition.  Top is in good-fair vintage condition with some color variance and marks.

Heywood Wakefield Credenza with Bookcase

Gentlemen prefer blondes.  At least this week.  But we always like the softened Streamline Moderne lines and warm, mellow tones of Heywood Wakefield.  Just in, this beautiful credenza with bookcase/ display cabinet in their 'wheat' finish.  The cabinet has six adjustable shelves (which are flat on one side and have plate rails on the other) and three sliding glass doors.  Below, the credenza has four ample drawers.  The bottom drawer extends the full width of the piece.  On either side are doors which open to compartments with one adjustable shelf.  This would be a wonderful focal point in any room and it provides tons of storage.  54" w., 18" d., 72" h.  American, c. 1948  $1,250.00  SALE $750.00
